Diskussionen om föreningsutrymmen på Åbo Akademi har varit ett hett ämne redan en lång tid. Den bottnar i att många av de nuvarande föreningsutrymmen kommer att försvinna som en följd av flytten till Aurum samt av ekonomiska orsaker. Åbo Akademis Studentkår (ÅAS) har kontinuerligt fört fram vikten av förenings- och studerandeutrymmen, bl.a. i ett uttalande från sitt fullmäktige. Det är med glädje vi nu tar emot nyheten om att föreningar ges utrymmen i Geologicum.
Geologicum är en historisk byggnad belägen bakom domkyrkan i Åbo, alltså i närheten av såväl campusområdet som Kåren. Planen är att ett fortlöpande hyresavtal om utrymmen tecknas mellan ÅA och ÅAS, som sedan ansvarar över att fördela utrymmen mellan föreningarna. Föreningarna får närmare 600 kvadratmeter till sitt förfogande, vilket ger dem verktyg att även i fortsättningen vara en vital del av studielivet i Åbo.
ÅAS vill rikta ett tack inte enbart till ÅA utan även Stiftelsen för Åbo Akademi, som äger byggnaden. “Det känns bra att man lyssnat på oss och att man tagit till sig de studerandes oro för utrymmena. Det är trots allt föreningarna som möjliggör det studieliv vi har och vi är därför glada över de nya utrymmen vi får i Geologicum”, säger Joonas Karlsson, ÅAS styrelseordförande.
“Nu är det viktigt att inte stanna upp, utan att fortsätta den goda dialogen med såväl ÅA som föreningarna, för att resultatet av uthyrningen ska bli så lyckat som möjligt, för alla parter”, påminner studentkårens generalsekreterare Jasmin Öberg. Utrymmen i Geologicum är ett stort steg mot rätt håll, men ännu finns det jobb att göra. Bland annat är det viktigt att säkerställa att studeranden i fortsättningen också har både paus- och studieutrymmen på campus – det är trots allt där majoriteten av studeranden spenderar sina studiedagar.
The discussion about association spaces at Åbo Akademi University (ÅAU) has been a hot topic for a long time. It is a result of the fact that many of the current association premises will disappear because of ÅAU’s partial move to Aurum and for financial reasons. The Student Union at ÅAU has continuously emphasized the importance of association and student spaces e.g., in a statement from the union’s council. It is with delight that we now receive the news that associations are being given premises in Geologicum.
Geologicum is a historic building found behind the cathedral in Åbo i.e., close to both the campus area and the Student Union building Kåren at Tavastgatan 22. The plan is that a continuous lease agreement is signed between ÅAU and the Student Union, which is then responsible for distributing the space between associations. The associations will have close to 600 square meters at their disposal, which gives them tools to continue to be a vital part of student life in Åbo.
The Student Union would like to thank not only ÅAU but also the Åbo Akademi University Foundation which owns the building. Spaces in Geologicum are a big step in the right direction, but there is still work to be done. Among other things, it is important to ensure that students in the future also have both break and study spaces on campus – this is after all where most students spend their days.
