Student Financial Aid
Students who receive student financial aid from Kela during their studies at a university, can apply to receive the same financial aid during the summer months of June, July and August. However, exchange students and international degree students are by default, usually not eligible for the general student financial aid. For more information, check here:

If you move to Finland in order to study, you will as a rule not be covered by the Finnish social security system, e.g. financial aid for students. You may, however, be entitled to some Kela benefits, provided that your move to Finland is considered permanent. This is determined mainly on the basis of the estimated duration of the studies and your country of origin (for study programmes of 2 years, there is already some coverage). Please find information here.
Students who have worked in Finland at least for 6 months with the minimum salary of 724 euros might be entitled to unemployment benefits. However, in most cases students are not considered unemployed, since they have an active study right. Students might, however, be entitled to sickness allowance and reimbursements for medicine costs, for a period of 3 months after the job ended. For more information, check here:
